ED - West Middlesex University Hospital

As a direct result of Motik’s death, our response to it and the ongoing conversations we have had with the A & E department at West Middlesex about our experience on the day he died and in the days, weeks, months and years since, the hospital have made and are making significant changes in a number of areas:

  • They have completely reconfigured and redecorated the family room where we were taken with Motik immediately after he died, and which was at the time completely unfit for the purpose it was meant to serve
  • They have bought appropriate gift boxes for families to use for their loved one’s personal effects
  • The Emergency Department have set up a charity to raise money to help upgrade equipment and improve services in both the adult and paediatric A&E, including improving the provision of appropriate bereavement information for all ages affected and, as more money is raised, family counselling.
  • The hospital have undertaken to train doctors and nurses in how better to help and support families like ours when devastated by a sudden death such as Motik’s, including using our written and video recorded accounts of our experience highlighting what we found helpful and, perhaps as importantly, what we found unhelpful.
We are conscious that so many of you have already made very generous donations to Great Ormond Street in Motik’s honour, but if you are able to support the appeal, they and we would be extremely grateful, as we feel very proud that these positive changes have only come about because of Motik, and they are a very appropriate testament to someone as loving and generous as him.

As of 2019, the ED appeal has been absorbed into the larger CW+ charity for the hospital trust. If you would like to donate, you can specify 'ED appeal - Motik' in the text box when you do so.
