Motik's memorials

On September 28th 2017, we commissioned a leaf for the tree in the Babies and Children's Memorial Garden. All four of us placed the leaf together on October 14th.

'Motik's Tree' at Meadows

In the months after Motik's death, both his school, Meadows Montessori School, and Peter's, Strand on the Green Infant and Nursery School, were kind enough to place memorials to Motik in their grounds.
The tree at Meadows is the same variety (Amelanchier Robin Hill) as a tree we planted in our own garden just a few weeks before Motik's death, and it flowered very beautifully in the days after he died. It seemed an appropriate choice when the school asked if we had a preference.
The freshly placed plaque with flowers

Peter's Headmaster, Mr Newton, very kindly arranged for a plaque in Motik's memory, for which we chose what we believed to be an appropriate inscription:
To the Indomitable Spirit of Motik O'Mahony.
It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness."
Peter himself placed the plaque, with the help of his very good friends Joe and Rhiannon. It was a wonderful moment for us all, and there are some bulbs around it now beginning to flower.
